Dan had three children from a previous marriage.
This red-headed son was born prior to Cathie's marriage to Ed. A general meeting of the extended family was held at the home of her mother's brother, Lester, and the decision was reached that the child, yet to be born, should be given up for adoption. When Cathie was just beginning to "show", she was sent to live at a home for unwed mothers in the northern Illinois area - I believe somewhere in Chicago proper. She saw the infant for a few minutes immediately after his birth and knows that he was fair and had red hair. When her second son, Michael, was born, she said he was God's replacement for the first son that she had been forced to give up, for Michael was the exact replica of the lost son. She has grieved over her lost boy and prays for him regularly. Her other children all know of him and hope one day to find him.
